David Lumsden ’79 is a former member of the first teams in cross country and track & field coached by renowned coach Gene Hoffman ’69.  David graduated from Towson State (B.S. Health/Pre-Med) having competed for three years on the varsity level in cross country, indoor and outdoor track.  He has competed on multiple levels in the marathon and triathlon.  David currently serves as Gene Hoffman’s assistant in the running program at Curley and has been coaching at Curley since 1982.  He has a M.A in Anatomy from the University of Maryland (Baltimore) and a M.S. in Exercise Physiology from University of Maryland (College Park).  David is a practicing orthopedic surgeon for Orthopedic and Hand Surgery Associates in Baltimore and serves as team physician for Curley.  He completed his medial school training at Penn State University (M.D. 1994), residency training at Union Memorial Hospital, and associative training at Johns Hopkins and Shock Trauma.  David has published numerous texts and journal articles in the field of anatomy, orthopedics, education and exercise related science.  He has been an educator on multiple levels and currently is director of Orthopedic Education for residents and students at Franklin Square Hospital.  He currently runs the martial arts program at Curley and serves as the director of the Mentor program.
